3.3 Types of AC systems to consider

Types of systems that offer a year round cooling and heating are 4-Pipe Fan coil system, Water source heat pump system and VRV system.

 

Sacrifices and cost to overhaul air conditioning system in this hotel per system:

3.3.1 “4 pipe Fan coil system”

・It doesn’t fit within the existing pipe shaft, requires reduction of guest room space and number of rooms.

・The hotel would have to shut down its business for 3 months

・Aside from the guest room construction fees, air condition construction cost alone would be $9 million US dollars  and work on the building would cost another $9 million, which totals $18 million.

When calculating per room cost, it would be $20,000 per room.

3.3.2 “Water source heat pump system”

・The hotel would have to shut down its business for 3 months

3.3.3 VRV System

・It doesn’t fit within the existing pipe shaft, requires reduction of guest room space and number of rooms.

・The hotel would have to shut down its business for 3 months

・Refrigerant pipes do not fit into the hallway ceiling

・There are no space to install the outdoor units.

Actualization of a dual cooling and heating system would not be realistic by the three types of air conditioning systems mentioned above. Therefore, in order to maximize the existing 2-pipe Fan coil system and achieve dual cooling and heating system with all year round at-command switching option, development efforts began for PAFMAC (PMAC And Fan-coil, Module, Air-conditioner, Cassette), an air conditioning unit specifically made for hotel guest rooms with technology from the previous PFAS system intact.
